Ozymandias

And on the pedestal these words appear —
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.’

As an artist I often struggle with being the kind of human being who begins sentences with ‘as an artist.’ I wonder about immortality, about my contribution to a society larger than me, about whether or not a thing I’ve done has mattered, or if I’m just a pile of carbon and iron that’s waiting for an appropriate time to stop chemically reacting. More than ever this has been on my mind as I progress through University and remind myself over and over again that there is basically no opinion I hold or idea I understand that is useful or meaningful when compared to one voiced by someone who essentially, is better than me. I, ultimately, feel that nothing I have ever done has been useful, that the ideas I like are simply not worth sharing, and that I should instead dedicate my efforts to trying to bring good peoples’ work to light.

On the 13th of August, I said:

We need a website with a text prompt where you can put your opinion, press ‘post’ and it just randomly tells you a nice, cheerful thing, like ‘Good job!’ and ‘What a great opinion.’
That’s all. Nothing else.

And now Mispy has made it so. I can therefore express a sincere joy that I had some part in the creation of this.
