I’m Not Good At Academic Reading

Man, lemme tell you about the pain in the ass that is academic reading.

I deeply love one of my lecturers’ lessons. They’re interesting, engaging, they’re on topics I feel connected to, when I’m wrong I find out about it, when I’m right, we elaborate on it, it’s a great place to be in, but the one thing I don’t do enough of in that class is engage with the reading.

They’re hard to read. Academic writing is just plain out hard to read. It’s a huge pain in the ass. Tonight, I sat down and powered through one of the major pieces of reading, did a blogcast about it for my uni blog, and then sat back, as it’s truncating the sound, hoping that I didn’t come across as a know-it-all-dick because I took ideas out of the writing and expanded them, using terms like ‘totemisation of language.’

Then, as it’s compiling to send, I realised this was written by the lecturer.
