The Hard Line

Battlefield Hardline is out. I haven’t played it. I don’t particularly want to play it. Chances are, the multiplayer is lots of fun. I don’t much care to be another voice weighing in on that. There is one thing about the game that I have experienced and I want to comment on.

The hard line in the title. Think about that. Oh, it’s a good name, it really evokes well what it’s trying to be, a cops story. It’s about taking a hard line against crime. It’s about being hard and because there’s a line, it justifies whatever the victim has to suffer.

Hardline stances are amazing things because, as in this game, it takes a context of power and makes that power’s deployment the fault of the victim. Or maybe I’m just used to hearing it from preachers and anti-immigration advocates.
